Hall of Fame inductees Hoodoo Gurus will bring their inimitable mash up of 1960s power pop, garage punk, hard rock and funky psychedelic kitsch to any event. The band have played every type of venue imaginable – from pubs and hotels across Australia to the the NRL Grand Final, charity relief concerts and massive events such as Glastonbury.
Formed in Sydney in 1981, the Hoodoo Gurus are still rocking venues around Australia 40 years on. Australians will be most familiar with monster hits “Bittersweet”, “Like Wow – Wipeout”, and “What’s My Scene?” and the group also had hits in the US with the singles “Come Anytime” and “Miss Freelove ’69”. The band incorporates a mix of genres into their music including 1960s power pop, garage punk, hard rock and funky psychedelic kitsch. While their popularity peaked in the 80’s, since reforming in 2003 they have enjoyed considerable success and have performed at the South by Southwest festival, Glastonbury and numerous festivals here in Australia including Splendour in the Grass and Meredith Music Festival. Hoodoo Gurus was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2007 and in 2011, they were inducted into the Music Victoria Hall of Fame.
